Leone Jenkinson

WESTERN CAPE

Leone Jenkinson is passionate about assisting children who learn differently and with difficulty. She is currently the chairperson of the Board of Directors of NILD-SA (NPO). In addition to completing a Teaching Diploma at Cape Town Teachers’ College, and a Higher Diploma in Education (Learners with Special Educational Needs) with UNISA, she has also completed the Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment course.

Leone has been working as an NILD Educational Therapist for 18 years and is an Instructor for NILD-SA, teaching courses nationally and internationally.

Jacquie Johnston

WESTERN CAPE

It was whilst completing her Social Work training that Jacquie Johnston was first introduced to children who learn differently. However, it was many years later, whilst searching for answers for her own children, that she was led to NILD and found her passion.

Jacquie has worked as an Educational Therapist for the past 16 years and is also a Director of NILD-SA. As an instructor for NILD she has run courses and workshops in Africa and Asia.

Santie Smit

WESTERN CAPE

Santie Smit is a registered Occupational Therapist and certified Expert NILD Educational Therapist.  She completed her Level 1 training in 2000 and has been working as an NILD Educational Therapist ever since. She has a passion for working with students who learn differently as her own son was diagnosed as being on the Autistic Spectrum, and this sparked a passion in her work with children who have been similarly diagnosed.

Santie is currently a director of NILD SA and on the Professional Support Team with the portfolio of running the termly Area Support Group meetings. She is, and has been since 2008, an instructor for  Level 1 and 2 training, being the current Lead instructor for level 1.

Louise Van Eck

WESTERN CAPE

Louise van Eck is currently a director of NILD-SA (NPO) and a member of the Professional Support Team. She completed her degree and honours in Journalism, with Psychology as an extra subject. When her own children were born, she decided to follow her passion and start her own playgroup. While running her playgroup over the next 15 years, she became aware of the increased cognitive difficulties the children were experiencing.

Because Louise is passionate about helping children with learning difficulties, she decided to train as an NILD Educational Therapist and completed her level III training in 2016. Louise believes it to be a great privilege to play a small part in helping children to become the best that they can be.

Susan Garrard

WESTERN CAPE

Sue Garrard is currently the secretary of the Board of Directors of NILD-SA (NPO). She has 28 years’ teaching experience and has served as a Foundation Phase teacher and currently as a Learner Support teacher.

Sue completed her Higher Diploma in Foundation Phase Education at the Pretoria College of Education. Not being satisfied, she went on to do a Further Diploma in Remedial Education (cum laude). Sue has worked as a NILD Educational Therapist for 8 years and is an intern lecturer for Level 1.

Sue’s passion has always been to help children who learn differently.

Shireen Archibald

KWAZULU NATAL

A registered Psychometrist with the HPCSA, Shireen Archibald is passionate about helping children who struggle in the classroom.

Shireen has been an NILD educational therapist since 2008 and is currently a Director of NILD and serving on the Professional Support team managing the Finance and Website portfolios.
