When I first started in the NILD Educational Therapy programme, I was struggling and very frustrated in class, and in my NILD sessions.
I was scared to try anything. I thought I was going to mess everything up. Then I remembered the verse in the Bible, in Phillipians 4:13, that says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I held onto that verse from that day, and realised that I can persevere through thick and thin. God helped me and comforted me when I did badly in tests.
I started to concentrate and listen more carefully to my NILD Educational Therapist, Aunty Leone. I developed the skills of concentration, perseverance and flexible thinking, which helped me to overcome obstacles in school and life. I gained confidence when studying for my tests because I started to believe in myself.
I think children who struggle in class should go to NILD, so that Aunty Leone can help them in areas that they struggle. I learnt that you need to think about what you want to say, and then apply it to the page; and not to be anxious to try new learning techniques. Students should always look on the positive side rather than the negative side, because a positive attitude will help them to stress and panic less.
